Big striker Michael Rankine was born in Doncaster on 15th January 1985.
He joined York City in a £10,000 transfer from Rushden & Diamonds in June 2009 in a deal that saw Craig Farrell move in the opposite direction.
A powerful 6'3" target man, Rankine started out as a trainee at Doncaster Rovers before playing non-league football with Armthorpe Welfare and Barrow.
His performances at Holker Street began to alert the attention of league scouts and he moved onto Scunthorpe United in 2004.
But he managed only a single league start at Glanford Park and was largely restricted to a supporting role from the bench, despite netting on his debut with a last-minute winner at Bury.
He moved back into the non-league circuit with Alfreton Town before signing for Rushden & Diamonds, and later had a brief loan spell at AFC Bournemouth.
