Neil Barrett was born in Tooting on 24th December 1981, and joined the Minstermen from Ebbsfleet United in the summer.
He was originally an England schoolboy international and began his career as a youngster with Chelsea before moving to Portsmouth in 2001. He went on to make 26 appearances for Pompey, who were then in the second tier of professional football.
Spells followed at Dundee, Livingston and Woking before he joined Ebbsfleet in 2007, and in his first season there the industrious midfielder helped them win the FA Trophy.
Scored York's goal in their FA Cup third round defeat at Premiership side Stoke City.
