Popular right-winger Archie Taylor was born in Doncaster in 1939, and represented his hometown club as an amateur before signing for Bristol City in 1958.
He made his league debut for them the following year, and went on to play for Barnsley, Mansfield Town, Goole Town and Hull City. Taylor switched to Halifax Town in 1963 and completed over 150 league appearances during his four-and-a-half seasons with the Shaymen.
A short spell followed at Bradford City before he moved to Bootham Crescent in October 1968. He scored on his league debut in a 4-2 home victory over Bradford Park Avenue.
Taylor was a real speed-merchant and able to operate on either flank, from where he possessed a fierce shot. He provided a major contribution during the 1970-71 promotion season, making 39 appearances. However, he wasn't retained at the end of it and instead moved into non-league football with Gainsborough Trinity.
But most long-standing City fans will always remember the regular calls of "Give it to Archie," who would then inevitably proceed to whip past his bewildered full-back with the roars of his supporters ringing solidly in his ears.
