A former Northern Ireland international who was seen as a major signing ahead of York City's second season in Division Two.
Born in Belfast in 1946, McMordie was a playing colleague of George Best during his earlier days before signing for Middlesbrough in September 1964.
He was a real fixture at Ayresome Park, where he made almost 250 league appearances while gaining 21 international caps.
McMordie then had a spell on loan with Sheffield Wednesday in 1974-75 and completely ran the show as his newly adopted club beat York 3-0 at Hillsborough.
But he joined the Minstermen in May 1975 and struck a spectacular goal on his debut against Portsmouth.
However, that was a rare high during his time at Bootham Crescent, and he was allowed to leave in December 1976 to sign for Hartlepool.
