Norman Wilkinson is the highest-ever goalscorer for York City and gave the club twelve years of magnificent service between 1954-66.
He was also a vital member of the famous 'Happy Wanderers' side that reached the FA Cup semi-final in 1954-55.
Wilkinson was born in Alnwich in 1931 and played for Hull City as an amateur while serving in the RAF. A move to York City followed in May 1954, and he promptly scored twice on his debut in a famous 6-2 opening day victory at Wrexham.
He was the youngest member of the great FA Cup side of 1954-55, and scored twice against Tottenham Hotspur in a 3-1 fifth round victory at Bootham Crescent. No other York players matches his record of 39 FA Cup appearances for the club.
Wilkinson appeared in two promotion campaigns in 1958-59 and 1964-65, and scored three hat-tricks in a total career record of 143 goals for York.
After leaving City, Wilkinson played for Annfield Plain in the Wearside League. He was a part-time professional throughout his career and had a shoe repair business running at the same time.
