Paul Aimson enjoyed two highly profitable spells at Bootham Crescent during the sixties and seventies.

Probably the most complete centre-forward ever to play for the club, Aimson was a prolific goalscorer and a true hero of the supporters.

Born August 3, 1943, at Prestbury, Cheshire. Striker Aimson had two successful spells at Bootham Crescent.

He is the fifth highest goalscorer in York City's history with 113 goals from 248 appearances. He was the club's leading scorer in four of his six seasons and he achieved five hat-tricks.

He joined York from Manchester City for a fee of £1,000 in July 1964 and scored 26 times in his debut season as York romped to promotion to the Third Division.

He transferred to Bury in March 1966 for £10,000 and had spells with Bradford City and Huddersfield Town before returning to Bootham Crescent in August 1969 for £8,000.

The Aimson touch did not let him or City down and he scored another 26-goals as the club won promotion again in 1971. Two years later, he scored a last-minute header to tie a third round FA Cup match 3-3 with First Division Southampton, earning a replay.

On October 18, 1971, he scored what was believed to be the fastest recorded goal for York City when he slotted home against Torquay United just nine and a half seconds after kick-off.

He transferred to Bournemouth in March 1973 for £12,000 and made his last move, to Colchester United, for £8,000 in August 1973. He retired a year later. One of the finest players to ever represent the club, Aimson died in January 2008, aged 64.
