The 16th March 1974 and a top-of-the-table Third Division clash between York City and Bristol Rovers in
front of more than eleven thousand fans at Bootham Crescent.
On Tuesday 13th March 2007, York City travelled to Cambridge United's Abbey Stadium, and produced one of their best away performances in recent memory as leading scorer Clayton Donaldson led the way with a superb hat-trick.
Under manager Denis Smith, York City were simply unstoppable, as they demonstrated on Saturday 5th October 1985 against newly-promoted Darlington, who were then struggling in 23rd place in the 'old' third division.
On a bright sunny day in 1974, captain Barry Swallow led his side out for the club's first ever game in
Division Two. The date was Saturday 17th August and Bootham Crescent was packed with excited fans.
York City travelled to First Division glamour club Blackpool, who had won the FA Cup only eighteen months earlier after defeating local rivals Bolton Wanderers 4-3 in the legendary 'Matthews Final', in the FA Cup third round on 8th January 1955.
