The date is 26th March 1955 and the venue Hillsborough, where modest third division club York City face
the might of top-level giants Newcastle United in the FA Cup semi-final.
York City travelled to First Division glamour club Blackpool, who had won the FA Cup only eighteen months earlier after defeating local rivals Bolton Wanderers 4-3 in the legendary 'Matthews Final', in the FA Cup third round on 8th January 1955.
They were dubbed 'The Happy Wanderers' after a popular song around at the time and were renowned for their bravery, fighting spirit and high quality football.
