York City manager Martin Foyle paid tribute to goalscorer Neil Barrett following the 1-1 draw at Luton Town.

Barrett's first goal for the club handed the visitors a first-half advantage that was later cancelled out by Asa Hall.

Foyle told the Press: “Along with Alex Lawless, Neil has been outstanding in the middle of midfield recently and deserves his goal.

“It was a good bit of play and he times his runs well into the box.

“He could have scored before now this season because he gets in good positions, but I’m pleased he’s got one now.”

But Foyle was less complimentary about referee Nick Kinseley, believing his side had two clear penalties waved aside.

“We had two blatant penalties turned down.

“The ref actually pointed to the spot when Richard (Brodie) went down, but then looked over at the linesman who changed his mind.

“I was delighted with our first half and we could have gone in 2-0 up.

“It was a bit like the Alamo when they came at us in the second half, but we defended well and Adam Boyes almost won us the game at the death.”
