York City manager Martin Foyle will be forced into taking a hasty roll call ahead of the weekend visit to Crawley Town.
That is because a virus sweeping through the KitKat Crescent camp has claimed at least six victims, making them doubtful for the trip to West Sussex.
Foyle was reluctant to give names but skipper Danny Parslow is understood to have been the first affected after he sat out the recent FA Cup first round victory against Bedworth United.
The York boss was faced with a real teasing conundrum on Friday morning as whether he should allow those affected and still willing to attempt to play to travel alongside their currently well colleagues.
“We have as many as six players ill with sickness problems as well as (assistant manager) Andy Porter," Foyle told the Press.
“We had to pull three or four off the training ground yesterday because they are really, really run down and I haven’t got a clue what the team will be tomorrow.“There are too many under the weather and we are wafer thin because we haven’t got enough players. Some people think it’s easy to play through these things but everybody’s different.
“It affects certain players worse than others and we are travelling down together, so there’s a chance it will spread. What I do know is I will be making changes because they will be forced upon me.”
Foyle won't though be making any emergency loan signings despite his selection problems.
“Anybody we brought in would probably not be able to play in the Cup next weekend, so you can’t rush into things like that,” he added.
Striker Richard Pacquette definitely won't be considered this weekend as he continues to recover from a recent thigh problem. He should though return to training on Monday.
Meanwhile, fellow forward Michael Gash is still on the way back from his metatarsal injury.
Crawley are without a victory in six games but could be boosted by the return of former Southend United striker Charlie Ademeno. He is expected to be named amongst their substitutes, with veteran campaigner Jefferson Louis still leading their line.
Defender Sam Rents should though return, although centre-back Karl Broadhurst faces a late fitness test after limping off against AFC Wimbledon.
Former City midfielder Simon Rusk is set to continue in the right-back role.
