York City manager Martin Foyle marked his first year in charge with a 1-0 victory over Gateshead on Tuesday evening.
That hoisted the Minstermen into third place in the table, which is higher than they have ever finished in the Conference.
However, Foyle readily conceded that the job at KitKat Crescent has proved much bigger than he ever imagined.
"It has been hard and I won't hide from the fact the job was a lot bigger than I thought," he told BBC Radio York.
"But we've got fantastic bonding in and around the place and I think that could take you places."
He continued: "It's surprising when you all muck in together - good team spirit and we've got a good board.
"The McGills (the club's owners) have been absolutely fantastic to us and hopefully we've rewarded it a little bit.
"But it all goes down to everybody. It's not certain individuals or me or the coaching staff."
Foyle says after a difficult campaign last year, it is the players that have been the real difference this season.
"It's nothing else," he added. "We haven't done anything different.
"We've worked on certain things but at the end of the day a manager is only as good as his players."
