Foyle: ''Fantastic team performance''

By Steve Jones
Sunday, 7th February 2010
Delighted York City manager Martin Foyle described the 1-0 victory at Kettering Town as a "fantastic team performance."

The Minstermen were on the retreat for long stages, but eventually took the honours through Michael Rankine's seventh goal of the season.

"I think the most pleasing thing was a fantastic team performance," Foyle told BBC Radio York.

"I had some real big decisions to make before the game and didn't even include Richard Pacquette, Josh Mimms and Kevin Gall. Michael Rankine

"And I did feel a bit sorry for Neil Barrett as well, another one that played in the nine wins. But I've got to make these decisions and as you can see, every one of them has got a big part to play between now and the end of the season."

York moved within one point of the leaders following their victory, but were grateful to their former Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Michael Ingham on a couple of occasions.

"If it wasn't for a fantastic save from Michael Ingham at the right time we should have been a goal down in ten minutes. But after that, personally I don't think they really hurt us. They had a bit of the ball and then I couldn't really see them scoring," continued Foyle.

And his side were to take full advantage of Ingham's early heroics when Rankine seized upon an error from Ian Roper on sixteen minutes and drove past Nathan Abbey in the home goal.

"I was pleased for 'Ranks' today because I pulled him in yesterday. I think his last league goal was November 20th, and I just said I need you shooting more and finishing more," Foyle added.
