York City manager Martin Foyle believes he has sufficient cover should either Richard Brodie or Neil Barrett pick up cautions in the next couple of games.
The duo are both just one booking away from a suspension as the Minstermen head to AFC Wimbledon this weekend. Should either receive a yellow card there they would miss the visit of Gateshead the following Tuesday evening, or if booked in that game the FA Cup tie at Cambridge United four days later.
“We will lose Richard and Neil at some point and you cannot really say whether losing them for Gateshead or Cambridge would be preferable," Foyle told The Press.
“What I can say is that I am confident enough that we have good enough personnel to cover their absences.
“Michael Gash, for example, played in an internal practice match this week and looks ready to return to the squad.”
Foyle praised Brodie and his playing colleagues for the fact that the seventeen-goal striker had survived a fifth caution of the season for the last six games.
“You have to give credit to Michael Rankine and Michael Gash for taking the need to win the first ball away from ‘Brodes’," he added.
“Richard can be a little clumsy at times with his aerial challenges and referees can punish that, as was seen by ‘Ranks’ pathetic booking on Saturday.
“‘Brodes’ has also listened and doesn’t get involved in any of the fracas now.
“It’s another part of his overall game that has improved.”
