York City manager Martin Foyle praised leading scorer Richard Brodie following his second hat-trick of the season against Hinckley United.

Brodie increased his own tally to an outstanding twenty-three for the campaign in a 3-1 victory that earned a trip to Newport County in the FA Trophy second round.

“The lad has done absolutely great," Foyle told BBC Radio York.

“He won the penalty himself and his other two goals were very good finishes. We asked him to run across the lines and he took that on board.”

Foyle added: “I’m pleased to get through although it wasn’t a vintage performance.

“We were slow to the second balls but you have to give them credit as well because they were lively and caused us problems at the right times.

“The pitch is also very hard to play on at the moment.”
