York City boss Martin Foyle has responded to tabloid criticism over the club's late arrival for their FA Cup third round tie at Stoke City.

Several daily newspapers have questioned the Minstermen's decision not to travel the day before the game.

“I had three or four national newspapers put in front of me and I found their stories quite laughable really," Foyle told The Press.

“They have made a meal of things because (Stoke manager) Tony Pulis and the referee were fine about everything.

“Hindsight is a great thing and there’s always a blame culture in football, but our preparations were the same as they are for all our games.

“We have never been late but there were roads affected and closed because of the snow.

“There were five Stoke City players late as well so they had the same problems. Yes, it was a big game, but I don’t think we could have changed anything."

Foyle also criticised quotes attributed to goalkeeper Michael Ingham over their travelling woes.

“What Michael said was exaggerated by the Sun and the Mirror though. He didn’t say those things.

“I’ve heard the interview now and feel sorry for him because he’s been made to look the bad guy."
