York City boss Martin Foyle was forced to settle for a replay following a 0-0 draw at Hinckley United in the FA Trophy first round.
The two clubs must try again at KitKat Crescent next Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).
"It's something I didn't want but we didn't have a goal threat today," Foyle told BBC Radio York.
"Defensively I thought we were superb again but in that final third we were off the pace."
Foyle had earlier made a few changes, including leaving top scorer Richard Brodie on the bench.
"I wanted to have a look at a few things as well," he continued.
"I wanted to see what it was like without Richard Brodie but also putting Adam Smith back out there as a winger so there was a few things I wanted to see.
"So it wasn't experimental and it's no disrespect to Hinckley but it's something I've had to have a look at.
"I'm going to go back to the strongest side again that's done so well."
