Martin Foyle has vowed to win back the fans and turn around York City's recent reversal in fortunes.

The Minstermen are currently seven games without a victory and have recently dropped out of the play-off zone whilst also departing the FA Trophy at the quarter-final stages. Alex Lawless

That has, in turn, begun to fuel rumbles of discontentment within certain sections of the Bootham Crescent faithful. Foyle, though, was unconcerned and said that he has seen it all before.

"We got ahead of ourselves, let's put it that way," he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"I can see where supporters are coming from but if you worry about forums then you have absolutely no chance.

"It's water off a duck's back, we have been in the game long enough and we cannot get involved because we've got to keep the club on  an even keel and the spirits high," he continued.

"We knew that we were in the play-offs on merit, but we knew we were going to have a sticky patch - no way does anybody go through a season without having a sticky patch.

"It was due but we are making mistakes rather than teams doing a good bit of play."

And Foyle was adamant that he can turn the situation around again and get York back winning on a regular basis.

"People think you are looking for excuses," he added. "But it was a blow with Alex Lawless (inset) as he is one of our better players.

"Now Chris Carruthers has gone over on his ankle on our pitch – all these things just seem to go against us.

"But the performances haven't been that bad, we've just had a few individual mistakes, but, overall, the players have put the effort in.

"If we keep doing that then hopefully we'll be okay," assured Foyle.

"We all want the best – the same as the supporters and everybody involved with the club.

"We got ourselves in a great position and the fixtures were there for us, but we seem to have found it harder against teams who are fighting for their lives than those at the top."
