York City boss Martin Foyle was pleased with the disciplined approach of his side after their late 1-0 victory over Newport County in the FA Trophy.
The Minstermen required a dramatic injury-time strike from the recalled Richard Pacquette to eventually progress through to a home meeting with Corby Town in the third round this weekend.
"We worked very very hard and we looked disciplined," Foyle told BBC Radio York.
"But there was no chance of any quality of football being played today. The pitch was horrendous and I apologised to Newport because it was very poor.
"Them as well as us, you get into certain positions and the balls were shanking behind the goal."
York had leading scorer Richard Brodie cautioned for the tenth time this season and he will now miss the next two games.
"I don't think I've ever made a decision because the referees dictated me to make a decision," Foyle added.
"The game is changing so much, but at times like this it's disappointing. You've got to take somebody off that's just running around and being honest."
He continued: "I'm delighted to be through and it's a fixture we can go a step further from.
"But I'm worried, I'm trying to find fixtures that we can't fit in and it's a bit of a worrying time.
"We've got to realise what is the upmost importance, but while you're winning games you want to continue it."
