York City boss Martin Foyle could make changes for the trip to Hinckley United in the FA Trophy first round.

Foyle has a number of players approaching a potential suspension and could therefore turn to the likes of Adam Smith, Andy Ferrell and Michael Gash as the Minstermen chase a club record ninth successive victory.

Midfielder Neil Barrett is only one caution short of a ban, while David McGurk, Levi Mackin and Chris Carruthers are just two bookings away. Leading marksman Richard Brodie is currently on six yellow cards and would miss two games should he reach ten.

“You don’t usually change a team if you want to keep a run going, but I’m worried about picking up bookings before the Christmas period, especially as we are down number-wise in defence," Foyle told The Press.

“With that in mind, we have worked on a few things, putting people in different positions to see if they can play there.

“We will go with the same attitude we would have for any game though and, even if we make three or four changes, that shouldn’t make us any weaker.

“Everybody in the squad is of similar ability and anybody can replace anybody if they take their foot off the pedal.”

Defenders Ben Purkiss, Djoumin Sangare and Alan O'Hare are all still ruled out through injury. However, Luke Graham has agreed a one-month loan extension from Mansfield Town and has been given permission to play in tomorrow’s tie. He will also be available on Boxing Day for the home clash with his parent club.

Recent signing Kevin Gall could also force his way into the side after scoring twice in a midweek 3-2 behind-closed-doors reserve friendly win against his former club Darlington. Winger Smith was also on target.

Foyle was expecting a tough challenge against their Blue Square North hosts, who will though be without  their 18-goal leading scorer Adam Webster due to ankle ligament damage.

Former Bournemouth striker Chukki Eribenne (eye injury) is also unavailable, while on loan defender Mark Dudley has been recalled by Derby County after suffering an Achilles injury.

Manager Dean Thomas has though signed striker Sam Smith on loan from Rushden & Diamonds.
