York City reserves will include Montserrat international striker Junior Mendes as a trialist against a Harrogate Town XI at Wetherby Road on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).
Mendes (33) is currently unattached following his release by Aldershot Town during the summer and also had a loan spell at Stevenage Borough last term.He originally started out at Chelsea as a trainee before spells at St Mirren, Dunfermline Athletic, Mansfield Town, Huddersfield Town, Notts County, Northampton Town, Grimsby Town and Lincoln City followed.
The visitors will also include Josh Mimms, Andy McWilliams, Levi Mackin, Adam Smith and unsettled winger Craig Nelthorpe against their Blue Square North neighbours.
Manager Martin Foyle told the Press: “It’s a chance to keep the whole squad ticking over and we also want to give Junior Mendes a game.
“He’s been training with us for a couple of weeks to get his fitness levels up and the door’s wide open for anybody to come in or go out. He was at Aldershot last season but has been playing for a few semi-pro teams and he’s better than that.
“Once Richard Pacquette joined Michael Gash in the treatment room, we were scratching around a bit and, while we were lucky to get Adam Boyes in, the chance is still there to fill a hole.”
