York City have signed versatile 27-year-old Jamie Clarke, who was released by Grimsby Town earlier today, while allowing midfielder Andy Ferrell to join Blue Square rivals Gateshead.
Clarke has more than 250 senior appearances to his credit after originally starting out at Mansfield Town before later spells with Rochdale, Boston United and Grimsby.
The Sunderland-born 6' 2" utility man can play either in midfield or defence, and has made thirteen appearances for the Mariners this season, with four of them coming from the bench. He joins until the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Ferrell, who was recruited from Kidderminster Harriers last summer, has since made 30 appearances for the Minstermen and scored twice, including the winner against Corby Town in the FA Trophy at the weekend.
But after starting in the side at the beginning of the season, he has largely been confined to a supporting role from the bench in recent times.
