York City will be without leading scorer Richard Brodie for the visit of his hometown club Gateshead to KitKat Crescent.

Brodie serves a one-match ban after picking up his fifth booking of the season against AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

The seventeen-goal marksman is likely to be replaced by recent signing Kevin Gall. Manager Martin Foyle is not yet convinced that Michael Gash or Richard Pacquette are fit enough to start after recent injuries.

Midfielders Neil Barrett and Alex Lawless will require late checks after suffering knocks at the weekend, while defender Ben Purkiss is still struggling with a chest problem.

“Michael Gash has not done much at all so I’m not sure whether he’s ready to start a game yet. Kevin Gall might get the nod, although we may need him on the right as well,” Foyle told The Press.

He also revealed that the suspended Brodie might have missed the game in any case: “Brodes has got a sore ankle so the suspension has come at the right time as he would have been struggling to play anyway,” he added.

Gateshead are likely to include a number of former York men within their ranks. Ex-Sunderland defender Darren Williams is currently featuring in the middle of their defence, while Phil Turnbull regularly patrols in midfield. Mark Robinson has though recently lost his place at left-back, and Adam Boyes has joined them on loan only a couple of weeks after ending a similar arrangement at KitKat Crescent.

The visitors will though be without defender James Curtis, who serves a one-match ban, while experienced 31-year-old on loan Mansfield Town striker Daryl Clare should again lead their attack after his hat-trick against Grays Athletic at the weekend.
