York City could equal a record going back more than fifty years if they defeat Wrexham at KitKat Crescent this weekend.

That would mark a run of eight successive victories that was previously achieved by their famous 'Happy Wanderers' FA Cup semi-final side in 1955.

However, manager Martin Foyle wasn't really focusing on such issues ahead of the arrival of one of only four teams to defeat his side this season.

“It’s nice for the club that people are talking about the positives rather than negatives but records don’t interest me if you want the honest truth," he told The Press.

“If we draw tomorrow, then have to go to Grays and win, so be it because I’m desperate to go down there and do well after our poor defeat there last season," added Foyle.

“And, even if we draw the next two league games, so what? We’d just have to get going again and you are always striving to stay unbeaten. We’re in a results- orientated business and records will always get beaten further down the line.”

Right-back Ben Purkiss is just about ready to return following a recent chest complaint. But centre-back Djoumin Sangare is still out and not expected to feature again before Christmas. Also it appears that on loan Luke Graham could be on his way back to Mansfield after this weekend.

“We are trying hard to do something but Mansfield have one or two injuries so he will probably be going back,” confirmed Foyle.

Former York midfielder Christian Smith misses out for the visitors through suspension, while Silvio Spann (hamstring) is also unavailable. Otherwise, Lamine Sakho needs a late fitness test.
