York City have signed Cambridge United winger Courtney Pitt on loan until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old has joined the Minstermen as part of an exchange deal that takes former Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Simon Russell to the Abbey Stadium.

Courtney Pitt

Ex-Chelsea trainee Pitt has made more than one hundred senior appearances for Cambridge since his arrival in 2005.

Russell has most recently been on a long-term loan at Tamworth after failing to break into the York side this term.

Neither player will be allowed to play against their parent club this season, therefore they won't be involved when York travel to Cambridge this weekend.

U's manager Martin Ling told their official website: "Courtney has been a great servant to Cambridge United but isn't in my plans for the future. This deal has given me the opportunity again to shuffle the pack and freshen things up.

"Simon is a versatile player who can play on either wing or as part of the midfield three. He is a good technical footballer and will be here with us until the end of the season to prove he is worthy of a contract beyond that, and Courtney will be doing the same at York."
