York City had Jason Walker and Andre Boucaud sent-off as they finally ended Barrow's long goalscoring sequence at the Furness Building Society Stadium.
Walker was dismissed during injury-time on his first return to his former club for a challenge on James Owen and Boucaud immediately joined him for his part in the fracas that followed.
Barrow had scored in every game so far this season and had much the better of the first-half, with ex-York striker Adam Boyes heading against the top of an upright and Richie Baker having a 22-yard free-kick tipped over by Michael Ingham.
The Minstermen improved after the break and Walker soon headed Ashley Chambers' cross straight at Danny Hurst before Andy Cook shot narrowly wide in reply.
The visitors should have then really had a penalty after Walker was denied by Hurst and Chambers' follow-up appeared to be handled on the line by Paul Smith.
Walker also had a free-kick helped over by Hurst, while Baker dragged an effort wide in reply in the final minute before the late drama unfolded in added time.
