Recent signing Peter Till stepped off the bench to rescue the visitors from a second defeat in a week following a hard-fought draw at newcomers Bath City.

The Minstermen appeared set for a surprise loss despite looking the better side for the vast majority of the game until Till (right) cracked home a superb equaliser from outside the area with only nine minutes remaining. Peter Till

Bath had earlier gone ahead through a terrific 30-yard strike from Adie Harris only moments after York keeper Michael Ingham had saved well from Adam Connolly. Lee Phillips had already struck the outside of an upright for the hosts following a quickly taken free-kick, while Djoumin Sangare saw a header ruled out for pushing at the opposite end.

The visitors were still back on level terms two minutes before the break with Chris Carruthers delivering an inviting cross that Michael Gash headed powerfully into the bottom corner.

York should then have gone ahead just beyond the hour when last season's top scorer Richard Brodie wasted an excellent chance after taking the ball past goalkeeper Ryan Robinson and prodding his finish wide.

However, a serious error of judgement from visiting keeper Ingham from a Marc Canham cross midway through the second-half allowed Phillips a free header to reclaim the lead for the home side.

But Till lashed in a superb equaliser fifteen minutes later before fellow substitute Jonathan Smith and the impressive Gash both went close to claiming maximum points for York right at the end.
