York City were denied victory by an injury-time equaliser after Jamie Reed had earlier come off the bench to claim his fourth goal of the season.
The visitors went ahead with just seven minutes remaining when Reed was brought down inside the area by Jamie Turley before expertly converting from the penalty spot.
But their opponents levelled with almost the last kick of the game as Rovers substitute James Norwood bundled in after York goalkeeper Michael Ingham couldn't gather.
Both sides had earlier hit the woodwork with Ashley Chambers drilling against a post for the visitors before Yan Klukowski did likewise at the other end following a sharp turn on the edge of the area.
Klukowski later headed wide when unchallenged from a James Rowe cross as the hosts continued to chase a fifth successive victory.
York manager Gary Mills had earlier handed a first start to latest signing Moses Ashikodi and he lifted an opportunity over the bar just before the interval.
However, the difficult windy conditions meant that genuine chances continued to be at something of a premium until the late drama.
That was enough to keep the visitors still in fifth place in the table and seven points behind the leaders.
