Michael Ingham was back to his best to help York City to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.

The former Northern Ireland international twice denied the dangerous Michael Coulson after the break as the visitors worked hard to keep their opponents in check. Michael Ingham

In contrast Mariners goalkeeper Kenny Arthur had a much easier time of it, although he was required to turn over a late Michael Gash shot as the visitors finished strongly.

Gash had already had a header blocked close to the line from a Chris Carruthers corner after earlier carelessly losing possession and allowing Michael Leary to shoot narrowly wide. York striker Richard Brodie also badly scuffed an attempt when well-placed.

The Minstermen then had strong claims for a penalty turned down following a Neil Barrett corner just before the break, but it was their opponents who started the second period on the offensive.

Ex-Barnsley striker Coulson had a drive from just inside the area parried over by Ingham before then firing narrowly wide two minutes later.

The York keeper also had to deny Coulson at his left-hand post before his opposite number Arthur was finally called into serious action when keeping out Gash's 15-yard effort with nine minutes remaining.

And it was the home fans this time having claims for a penalty rebuffed as Alan Connell turned David McGurk during the final moments and went down inside the area without reward.
