Liam Henderson scored his first goal for York City but they continue to lose ground towards the top of the table and are now without a victory in four league games following their 1-1 draw at Mansfield Town.
Former Watford striker Henderson [right] returned from a month's loan at Forest Green Rovers earlier this week and netted a 62nd minute equaliser after the visitors were again guilty of a dreadful individual defensive error.
That occurred on eleven minutes when David McGurk fell badly short with an attempted back-pass and Mansfield's on loan striker Matt Green comfortably took the ball past Michael Ingham to open the scoring.
York's only chance during the opening forty-five minutes arrived when Matty Blair was sent free by Patrick McLaughlin. But he drove straight at goalkeeper Alan Marriott from the edge of the area.
The visitors ditched their revised wing-back formation at the break and introduced forward Ashley Chambers for defender Jamal Fyfield in a more regular 4-3-3 set-up.
However, Mansfield twice had opportunities to increase their lead with Ross Dyer scuffing wide following excellent approach play from Green before also firing straight at Ingham moments later.
Opposite number Marriott then turned over a teasing James Meredith delivery before York, who were backed by a large travelling support, drew level as Henderson expertly steered home a mis-hit cross from Lanre Oyebanjo.
Substitute Jamie Reed later had an effort deflected over for the visitors after Blair's shot was blocked at the end of more fine work from McLaughlin.
