Tamworth continue to hold the ascendancy over their former manager Gary Mills after inflicting a first away defeat of the season on a very disappointing York City.

Gary MillsAn unexpected 2-1 success over the Minstermen at Bootham Crescent in April seriously dented their end-of-season play-off ambitions on that occasion, and the Midlands side were at it again when matching that scoreline on a blustery afternoon at the Lamb Ground.

But the hosts were seriously helped along the way as their opponents conceded a couple of second-half penalties before snatching a late consolation.

First skipper and former Tamworth defender Chris Smith held back Danny Mills in the box and Kieron St Aimie struck home a 53rd minute spot-kick.

Twenty minutes later things got even worse for the visitors when Smith brought down Danny Thomas and fellow substitute Iyseden Christie knocked in a second from twelve yards.

Jason Walker did pull a goal back when heading in Ashley Chambers' cross with six minutes remaining but it was a case of far too little too late after another poor York performance.

The Lambs had gone closest during the opening half when Smith cleared off the line from a deflected shot by Daniel Bradley after the bustling Mills' effort had only just been diverted behind.

York's best moments arrived as full debutant Jon Challinor almost forced in a Walker effort at the far post before Chambers had a shot blocked by goalkeeper Jonathan Hedge.

Substitute Patrick McLaughlin also had a late drive helped over by the former Harrogate Town keeper as the visitors chased an equaliser in added time.

And their disappointment was componded when right-back Lanre Oyebanjo suffered a bad hamstring injury just before the end which is likely to keep him out for a number of weeks.
