AFC Telford United staged a late smash-and-grab raid to inflict a first defeat of the season on York City at Bootham Crescent.

Craig Farrell Former York striker Craig Farrell [right] scored the only goal with his first touch shortly after being introduced as an 84th minute substitute.

But the hosts dominated the second-half in particular with leading goalscorer Jason Walker twice shooting wide when well-placed.

The opening half was more even with few chances and Matty Blair almost got on the end of an early Walker flick and Lanre Oyebanjo drilled over, while Adriano Moké also threatened on a couple of occasions.

The Minstermen stepped it up after the break following the introduction of Jamie Reed  for the limping Blair.

Their full-back Oyebanjo twice lifted efforts over while Walker should have done better on 72 minutes when driving off-target following a good run by Ashley Chambers.

Walker also shot wide six minutes later after Oyebanjo had dispossessed ex-York winger Alex Meechan.

But it was another substitute who was to find the winner as Farrell tucked the ball home with only four minutes remaining after an effort from Phil Trainer had come back off the post.
