Levi Mackin enjoyed his return to Bootham Crescent as he converted a first-half penalty to send an ineffective York City side on their way to a second successive home defeat.

Levi Mackin The former Welsh Under-21 international took advantage of an illegal Andre Boucaud challenge on Paul Clayton in the 43rd minute to eventually separate the sides on a day of real anticlimax for the home fans.

The Minstermen struggled throughout with Patrick McLaughlin missing their best chance when being sent clear by Boucaud on the half-hour. Alfreton goalkeeper Dan Lowson blocked that effort and also safely gathered a James Meredith drive following a Jason Walker cross before the home side fell behind.

York boss Gary Mills threw on striker Jamie Reed for the start of the second-half and despite leading goalscorer Walker soon having a header cleared off the line, they struggled to find any genuine rhythmn or control.

Portuguese-born midfielder Adriano Moké displayed some delightful skill late on until his close-range effort was blocked by Lowson before Ashley Chambers had a low drive held during added time.

Their defeat saw York slip down to sixth in the table and already six points behind joint leaders Wrexham and Gateshead.
