Leading marksman Jason Walker scored twice, including a last-gasp equaliser, as York City fought back to earn a highly-deserved 2-2 draw with Cambridge United at Bootham Crescent.

Jason Walker The visitors had earlier taken an eighth-minute lead when Harrison Dunk took advantage of a flick on from ex-York striker Michael Gash and fired past Michael Ingham.

Walker soon hooked narrowly over in reply and Ashley Chambers forced a smart save from Danny Naisbitt, who could then only block after Patrick McLaughlin swept past four opponents and Walker dived low to head in the rebound midway through the opening half.

But Cambridge were back in front ten minutes later as Gash nodded in an inviting cross from the right by Ashley Carew. York's Jon Challinor almost matched that feat of scoring against his old club but his shot flashed just wide moments before the break.

The Minstermen proceeded to totally dominate upon the restart as they searched desperately for an equaliser. Naisbitt was forced to save from Chambers before Walker headed the resulting corner wide. Andre Boucaud and Chambers were then both denied by the keeper, while substitute Adriano Moké attempted a couple of speculative efforts before Challinor drilled another opportunity wide.

However, a late trip on Moké with little more than a minute of the contest remaining offered York one last chance from the edge of the area and Walker stepped up to superbly drive his free-kick into the bottom corner.

There was still enough time on the clock for Cambridge's James Jennings to be dismissed for a second bookable offence after a deliberate handball in added time.
