York City's highly-rated strike force were both on target but resilient Darlington still claimed a point in an entertaining draw at Bootham Crescent.
The Minstermen were ahead inside two minutes when Jamie Reed blasted home his third goal in three games and in only his second start.
But York were much less decisive when dealing with their opponents first attack on twelve minutes and James Walshaw broke through to equalise after rounding goalkeeper Michael Ingham.
Home midfielder Patrick McLaughlin was soon denied by a sliding challenge in the area by Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, who then gave his side the lead from the penalty spot after goalscorer Reed barged into Adam Rundle. It was the fifth penalty conceded by York in five games.
Darlington goalkeeper Sam Russell then saved well after team-mate Ian Miller diverted the ball towards his own goal and Jason Walker took too long to get his shot away when ideally placed for the hosts just before the break.
York goalscorer Reed dragged a shot wide after the interval and Walker struck an effort straight at Russell after substitute Liam Hatch lacked sufficient composure when set up by Greg Taylor at the opposite end.
The Minstermen drew themselves level with eleven minutes remaining when Walker turned Miller and lodged the ball in the stanchion with a superb finish into the top corner.
Substitute Adriano Moké then went close to winning it for them when his late attempt was blocked following an Ashley Chambers corner.
