Fluent York City continued their impressive start to the season as Jason Walker, Patrick McLaughlin and Matty Blair were each on target in a 3-1 victory over Barrow at Bootham Crescent.

Matty BlairWalker took only seven minutes to find the net against his former club when after earlier being denied by goalkeeper Danny Hurst, he followed up as Ashley Chambers' shot came back off an upright.

Goalscorer Walker, Chambers and Blair [far right] all threatened to increase that advantage while goalkeeper Michael Ingham saved from ex-York midfielder Andy Ferrell and Paul Rutherford in reply.

But York extended their lead just before the break with Adriano Moké and James Meredith combining for McLaughlin to drive his finish into the far corner.

The Minstermen weren't able to maintain such a high level following the interval and their chances became far less frequent.

Impressive midfielder Moké did hoist one effort over and Walker had another shot blocked by keeper Hurst while Louis Almond sliced well wide in reply.

With only nine minutes remaining Barrow gave themselves a lifeline as Adam Boyes headed in against his former club from a cross supplied by Kelvin Lomax, who was then dismissed for a second bookable offence in the final minute.

York midfielder McLaughlin had, meantime, had another low drive stopped by Hurst before home substitute Michael Potts battled his way through to give Blair a simple finish just before the end.
