York City proved much too good for leaders Luton Town after three first-half goals helped them to a comfortable 3-0 victory at Bootham Crescent.

Ashley ChambersIt was the second weekend in succession that the Minstermen had outplayed the top side in the division after beating Wrexham by the same scoreline seven days earlier.

Their victory was enough to take them above their latest opponents and into fifth-place in the table.

Ashley Chambers led them on their way when curling a superb first goal from the edge of the area into the bottom corner on nine minutes.

York then missed a couple of great chances in rapid succession through striker Jamie Reed, who chipped over the keeper and wide of the far post after a mistake by Will Antwi before being denied by Mark Tyler following a wonderful through ball from Andre Boucaud.

But Reed lost his marker on 31 minutes and presented the opportunity for Jason Walker to drive low past Tyler from inside the area and claim a sweet goal against his former club.

After Stuart Fleetwood struck an effort across goal and wide of the far post the visitors fell further behind in first-half injury time. More fine work by Walker as he chipped across from the left and Chambers volleyed his second of the afternoon from six-yards.

Chambers shot narrowly wide early in the second period and Walker crashed a wonderful 25-yard effort against the woodwork before hoisting over from close-range at the end of a glorious home move.

Recent signing Jamie Hand blazed a shot over from a Fleetwood cross in reply and Jake Howells saw a driven effort turned behind by Michael Ingham following a purposeful run into the area.

But the visitors were already preparing themselves for a heavy first defeat of the season by then against a vibrant and confident home side.
